Acacia melanoxylon SEEDS

Acacia melanoxylon seeds grow into one of the most commercially important and ornamentally distinguished of all Australian timber trees the blackwood, native to the temperate biome of south-eastern Australia including Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia, where it grows in moist forests and gullies. This medium to large tree develops a broad, spreading canopy of dark green, sickle-shaped phyllodes (modified leaf stalks) that flutter attractively in the wind, and produces small, cream to pale yellow ball-shaped flower clusters in spring. The wood known as blackwood or Tasmanian blackwood is among the most prized cabinet and musical instrument timbers in Australia, valued for its rich reddish-brown grain with darker streaks. Acacia melanoxylon is adaptable and vigorous, tolerating a range of soil types including heavy clay. It provides excellent shade and wind protection and grows well in full sun to partial shade.
