Native to Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean, the furry, heart-shaped seeds of the Annatto or Achiote shrub are used to make natural, yellow-orange dye for cosmetics, textiles, and food. Annatto is valued as a medicinal plant. Mature shrubs reach 10-12+\’ tall. 25 seeds minimum Germination: 7-21 days Maturity: 2-4 years Start seeds indoors. Sow 1/8\” deep is seed starting mix. Grow lights will facilitate germination and early growth. Keep evenly moist. Transplant seedlings in full sun/partial shade. Hardy in zones 9-11 with frost protection.
