Alocasia ‘Amazonica’

Alocasia ‘Amazonica’ (often sold as ‘Polly’ in its compact form) produces narrow, arrow-shaped leaves in deep, glossy, near-black green with thick silvery-white veining and scalloped, wavy margins. The overall effect is graphic and architectural, like a leaf that has been designed rather than grown. It holds its foliage upright on slender stems, creating a tight, sculptural cluster that fits comfortably on a desk or side table. A bold centrepiece among Alocasias.

Origins
Despite the name, Alocasia ‘Amazonica’ is not from the Amazon. It is a cultivated hybrid, most likely a cross involving A. longiloba and A. sanderiana, bred for its dramatic leaf shape and high-contrast colouring.
