Alocasia ‘Mandalay’

Alocasia ‘Mandalay’ is a compact, upright jewel alocasia with glossy, ovate dark green leaves crossed by bold silver-white veins. The midrib and primary veins stand raised and proud of the surface, giving the foliage a striking, three-dimensional texture, while subtly lobed margins add to its character. A naturally compact selection of the much-loved Alocasia ‘Polly’, it keeps a smaller, more clustered form with shorter internodes and neat little leaves, making it a collectable aroid with serious presence in a small footprint.

Origins
Alocasia ‘Mandalay’ is a cultivated form of Alocasia amazonica ‘Polly’ itself a hybrid descended from species native to the warm, humid rainforest understorey of Southeast Asia. ‘Mandalay’ arose as a naturally occurring whole-plant mutation discovered in Apopka, Florida in 2011, selected for its more compact habit, shorter ovate leaves and more prominent silver veining.
