Dioon argenteum 12cm CAUDEX

Dioon argenteum is one of the rarest and most spectacular cycads in the world endemic to the Sierra Madre del Sur of Oaxaca in southern Mexico, where it grows on steep, rocky limestone slopes in seasonally dry tropical forest. This specimen has a 12 cm caudex, a size that reflects years of the extremely slow growth typical of the Dioon genus. The name argenteum means ‘silvery’ and perfectly describes the most extraordinary ornamental character of the species: stiff, pinnate fronds of an intense, brilliant silver-grey a colour unmatched among cycads in cultivation.
