Prinz Celeriac/Celery Root Seeds

Celeriac, known as Celery Root Prinz in its specific cultivar, originates from the Mediterranean region and belongs to the Apium graveolens species. This root vegetable has gained popularity for its unique flavor and versatile culinary uses.

The Celery Root Prinz plant exhibits an intriguing aesthetic with its large, bulbous root covered in rough, knobby skin and numerous rootlets. Above the ground, it grows celery-like foliage with deeply cut leaves, though its primary appeal lies underground in the root itself.

Regarding taste, Celery Root Prinz offers a distinctive flavor that combines the essence of celery with a hint of parsley and nutty undertones. Its flesh is creamy white, firm, and dense, providing a flavorful addition to various dishes when cooked or used raw in salads.

Cultivating Celery Root Prinz from seed requires specific growing conditions. These plants prefer cool climates and fertile, well-draining soil with ample moisture. Planting from seed involves sowing them directly in the garden or containers, placing seeds about a quarter-inch deep and spacing them 6-8 inches apart.

Consistent moisture during the growing season is crucial for proper root development. Adequate sunlight, at least 6 hours daily, promotes healthy growth of both foliage and the root bulb. It’s essential to keep the soil evenly moist to ensure robust root growth and to prevent cracking or splitting.
