This productive,mini kabocha is a red-skinned version of Shochiki Green. Expect the same five to seven fruits per plant, only slightly larger, with dark orange, fine grained flesh. The flavour is sweet and nutty roasting certainly elevates the sweetness. It pairs exceedingly well with other rich flavours like sage in browned butter, as well as sharp tastes like green apple and chardonay. Shokichi Red Mini Kabocha performed well in our summer field trials, not straying far from the planted row, and producing a large harvest of smallish kabocha fruits.
